PetroPol (Tahiti), PetroCal (New Caledonia) and now PetroVan (Vanuatu): A New Chapter in Pacific Energy Cooperation

The Government of the Republic of Vanuatu has marked a significant milestone in advancing its national energy security and economic agenda, with the formal signing initiating the establishment of PetroVan in Vanuatu, in accordance with Council of Ministers Decision No. 362 (2025).

Aligned with the Government’s 100-Day Plan, the project introduces a second fuel supply option aimed at enhancing competition, improving supply efficiency, and contributing to the stabilization of energy prices — a key driver of business and trade in Vanuatu.

The initiative will also expand Vanuatu’s fuel storage capacity, strengthening national resilience while supporting a longer-term vision to position the country as a strategic fuel storage and supply hub for the Pacific region.

The Government acknowledged the continued role of the existing fuel operator in Vanuatu, noting that PetroVan will complement and strengthen the current system, particularly in expanding storage and distribution networks.

Minister Samson was accompanied by senior officials including Mr Marcellino Pipite, Mr Joe Ligo, Mr Noel Kalo, Mr Lazarus Aising, Mr Jack Lowane, Mr Atanas Pipite, and Mr Harold Tarosa, along with Consul General Mr Serge Alain Mahe and Trade Attaché Mr Pierre-Henri Macabies.

This initiative reflects the Government’s commitment to strengthening resilient economic structures and advancing regional cooperation within the Pacific, including within its partnership framework with the Government of New Caledonia. SKI is engaged in its capacity as the technical implementing partner of the PetroPol Group, supporting the development of fuel infrastructure, storage capacity, and distribution systems in Vanuatu. distribution networks.
The agreement was formalized in the presence of SKI President Mr. Cyprien and Ms. Jessica Douapere, who acted as witnesses
